Story
The Gatuya Coffee Factory is one of two washing stations operated by the New Murarandia Farmers Cooperative Society, representing around 3,500 smallholder farmers in Kenya's Murang'a County. Most members cultivate just 0.2–0.3 hectares of land, carefully growing coffee alongside food crops before delivering ripe cherries to the factory for processing.
Located on the western slopes of the Aberdare Mountains, Murang'a is known for its rich red volcanic soils, cool climate, and abundant rivers. These conditions encourage slow cherry maturation, producing coffees celebrated for their clarity, vibrant acidity, and remarkable complexity.
At Gatuya, meticulous cherry selection and centralized processing ensure consistency and quality in every lot. The cooperative model allows thousands of small producers to combine their harvests while preserving the distinctive character of Murang'a, showcasing the precision, collaboration, and terroir that define Kenya's finest specialty coffees.
Flavour Profile
Fruity, floral, with berries dominating the whole experience make a cup of the Muranga AA a very good representation of a classic kenyan profile. Sweet and sour, with smooth texture and notes of wild berries with a nice pungy acidity that leaves the month watering for more.
