Mr. Mengesha Derso owns and cultivates 15 hectares of land in the highlands of Gedeo Zone, Southern Ethiopia — a region globally celebrated for its exceptional Yirgacheffe coffee.
At 2,300 meters above sea level, his farm benefits from ideal altitude and climate conditions for growing high-quality, shade-grown Arabica. Now 62 years old, Mr. Mengesha brings a lifetime of farming knowledge to his land, having worked in agriculture his entire life.
Together with four of his 12 children, he manages the farm using natural fertilizers like composted plant matter and animal manure, helping to maintain the health and biodiversity of the soil. His dedication to sustainable, high-quality coffee production has earned him recognition from Ethiopian agricultural authorities.
Mr. Mengesha’s coffee reflects the best of Gedeo’s terroir — vibrant, floral, and complex. Each harvest is a tribute to his deep-rooted connection to the land and to generations of Ethiopian coffee farming tradition.
